WECADV was founded in 2007. Its mission is to support families/persons who are affected by domestic violence. WECADV has an annual walkathon and other events to raise money to assist the families/persons after the traumatic experience. Dignitaries who speak at the events are Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Vincent Gray, Council Chair Phil Mendelson, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8E, Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC), United Planning Organization (UPO), Barry LeNoir (United Black Fund), Police Chief Cathy Lanier, Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes, Seventh District Police Commander Joel Maupin, Sam Ford, News Reporter, Nicholas Majett, Director of Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA), William Kellibrew (The William Kellibrew Foundation), among other special guests.
